The theory of aging
Between 30s and 40s
Have you hit this landmark called 40 ? Or, are you heading up to. The age is just a number but this number surely teaches us a lot of things when we are moving upwards. Here I am sharing my learnings and experiences to move upwards gracefully and living happily.
1. Stop pretending to enjoy things you actually hate.
Haven't you tried living for others in your late 20s and mid 30s? Don't you regret it now? (think..). So, now why are you going to a kirtan or a kitty party if you don't want to? Stop making others happy and think about yourself first. Learn to say NO.
2. Find a hobby.
When was the last time you went for a walk alone? When was the last time you finished watching your favorite movie in one go? Did you stitch anything in the last few years? Dance? painting? So, now its the time to thinks about these things once again. Children have grown up, they can take care of themselves. So, get up , your hobby is calling.
3. Live cluster free.
Shopping is real fun, a great stress buster, but now its time to make a clear divide between a want and a need. Try to live cluster free. Look around, make a list of things which you haven't used since years. Get rid of it, donate. This will not only help you to make some savings , but will also help you be better organised and love peacefully. You don't really need to be a brand ambassador of many items. Relax, unwind, and be organised.
4. Accept your body.
Hormones.... is THE thing. Accept yourself as you are. The face will look broader than before, the waist size is going to change, and the only thing which will fit you forever will probably be your rubber band or your scarf. It's natural. Some women might not agree as they look still the same but that's a bonus. You are gymming a lot, you are under the boring KETO, that's commendable, but here I am talking about masses.
5. Make 'YOGA' a habit
Accepting your body the way it is changing doesn't mean that you should not take care of your body. Now, as the hormones have started gaming inside, it will start calling its mates like sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure to name a few. Now, as your children have grown up, as they can take care of themselves, you should start doing that also. Try to make some time out for yourself and practice yoga. I always prefer yoga over gym because, I find gymming tiring and yoga relaxing. But the point is to keep the body and mind fit.
6. Change is permanent.
Yes, the only thing that is permanent is 'change', so why are you consistent over certain things. Keep yourself updated and trying something new is never a crime. A new hair style, hair color, spa, following ( stalking) your childhood celebrity crush, a new recipe ( non-Indian) might boost you up. So, try.
7. Ayurveda first.
Ayurveda aims to preserve health and wellness by keeping the mind, body, and spirit in balance and preventing disease rather than treating it. There was no time previously for crushing ginger and tulsi, and making kadhas, but now it's time to switch over. So, stop taking those paracetamol tablets for everything and try cloves instead.
8. D.I.Ys
This is certainly my favourite therapy of this age. From cleaners to frills of your bed cover , you can make anything. All you need is your will power.
9. Friends calling
500 friends on facebook , but with how many of them have you spoken with since ages. Call your friends and exchange some words instead of only liking the pictures. Talk your heart out.
10. The theory of 'budhhape ki lathi'
This is the biggest myth. I dont know from where did it come . You are raising your children so that they can live better , achieve more than what you have. So, certainly they are going to live their life on their own, without being your lathi. And moreover, why to create a need of lathi, please take care of your spine. Stand erect and keep your chin high all your life. Raising children to be independent should make you dependent on them later on. Be your own lathi, crutches , wheel chair , whatever, but your own.
MORAL : Age gracefully, explore and learn.
